Frequently Asked Questions
What are the teams available at Spike?
We offer one team at each of the following age levels for boys: 12/13s, 14s, 15s, 16s,17s and 18's. On a case-by-case basis we may add a second team at a certain age group if the demand and staffing are available. 11 and 12's are welcomed and encouraged to tryout for the 13's team
How much does the club cost?
The club dues for the 2025-26 season are varied based on the team. Please check out the specific team page to find out more information about the season's plan and pricing. The dues include tournament entry fees, insurance, coaches stipends, equipment and gym rental. Additionally, players will be responsible for purchasing a uniform package of about $150. The only additional out-of-pocket expense you may incur will be if we stay overnight for a tournament. In that case, you will need to pay for a hotel. In addition, though not mandatory, the teams in the past like to purchase “spirit wear”.
What is the process to get on a team?
Interested players must attend at least 1 tryout date for a team they wish to participate on. All 40 regions of USA Volleyball use a player’s birthday, not grade, to determine what age-level the player can participate in during the club season. A player can choose to compete in an older age division than his own but cannot choose to compete in a younger age division. Click here to visit the Badger Region website that has the age definitions spelled out.
During or after the tryout process, an "offer" will be made by the coach or club director to signify a position on the team is reserved for that player. Players with offers must adhere to the decision timeline outlined by badger region.

Does spike accept age waivers?
If your son meets the criteria for an age waiver, Spike will definitely consider him for a roster spot. According to the Badger Region, you must show proof of grade and birthday to prove that you will be playing in the same grade as your peers. Age waivers will be limited to a maximum of two per team.

How much pLaying time can be expected for players on the team?
Equal playing time is difficult to judge because of the various positions on the court. Having said that, we vow to give each player fair playing time. In other words, you can expect to see your son play in every tournament. We strive to make sure that each player gets an ample amount of playing time to improve their skills
What type of coaches are involved with spike?
We pride ourselves in having quality coaches to give your son a positive and productive volleyball experience. Many are involved or have been involved in coaching area high school boys and/or girls volleyball teams. Every one of our coaches stands behind Spike's club philosophy and pledge of ethics. Do I get to play for spike again next year if i made a team this past year?
For the 2025-26 season, Spike has chosen to retain some of its players, however each team will have multiple openings at different positions that will be filled at tryouts.
How Can parents help out with the team?
We encourage any parents to come forward and serve as a "team parent." This minor volunteer leadership role would include but not be limited to helping organize any team events throughout the season, serving as a communication hub during tournaments for other parents and players, and being a positive model in audience.
Also, the Badger Region offers a parent program called Serve United. During the season, this parent/adult can contribute to the success of the club and ease some stress on the team if they’re able to step in and give a player a break to eat, rehydrate or rest.
